Kelly's Birthday Party

The following story is rammed with in-jokes. If you don't get some of them it's a sure sign that you haven't been to enough of my parties. Failure to attend enough B* Deluxe parties may result in severe malnutrition of the pleasure centres. Please proceed immediately to the nearest sub woofer and dose up on bass. This should get you going till our next party!

Once upon the time there was a bearded dragon called Kelly who weighed about Tree. Fiddy. It was her birthday so she invited all the little boys and all the hot sexy mamas to come and play in The Lache.

Kelly chose the biggest glass she could find! Isn't it massive? We filled it with THE Best Punch in the world! Orange, guava & Acerola Berry Juice, Bunderberg Ginger Beer and Gin! mmmm yum.

I brought my pink wishes stick and with a flick of my wand I asked everyone "OK, wut is ur wishes!"

After all the wishes were granted, and my wishes stick was safely in my leg warmer ready to go to Lenin, Paulo decided the girls were being to rowdy so he better beat them into submission.

Ceiling Swamp

Well no one can say we don't throw a good party! We had 2 different rooms playing a selection of music from your favourite djs, bands and musicians and for those of that got too hot from all the sweat dripping booty shaking, the pool was available, complete with boys to pull you in if you're a little shy!

Ring-tastic

The party was great with everyone drinking well beyond capacity, but thankfully not spilling anything on the carpet! Our only casualties were our new flash-guy lamp and a section of roof guttering that got stood on (don't ask).
Oh yeah! and as anticipated the bass from Paul's new hifi brought the noise control! mhmm.

Expensive Cuddle

Yesterday we decided to go for a walk on the beach, only to find Point Chev positively riddled with small and spectacularly loud juvenile humans on parole from school. Not really suiting our mood we hunted around for somewhere a little more secluded. However instead of the anticipated cozy viewing of the sun settling over the horizon we got the car stuck in the mud. Spent half an hour on our knees shovelling the disgusting sand, pitch black underneath with decaying organics, until we were literally gagging from the stench... and only succeeded in sinking the drivers side of the car down to its runner boards!

After calling 4 different tow companies we finally found someone who'd come out and 'see' if they could help us. In the end it took 2 tow trucks.... 1 to tow the car out and the 2nd to tow the 1st truck out... and cost us a pretty penny!!
The towies did say it was quite a common site though and we were lucky to get it out... they've witnessed several cars submerged, including a police car! Aweskimo!

The Lache

We've moved (literally) 600m up the road. To a house with a mint-as view (and a pool and a spa). Here's a couple of pics to tantalize...

It's been hypothesised that the living areas in The Lache are twice as big as SchwarzHaus so we're going to need twice the number of people to fill it at our next party... hope you all can help out!

Also Paul's just purchased a honking great stereo system that's going to bully your heart into pumping blood in time with the music, or pulverize you in trying (this is a good thing!). I would take a photo of it but I don't have a wide angle lens -kidding! -but seriously. -nah, just joking! -or am I? *raised eyebrow*

SchwarzHaus Final Hurrah!

If you haven't already heard we're moving out of SchwarzHaus cause the stinky-poo landlord decided to sell the place! We've moved up the road (more on that later) but in celebration of our moving we decided to put SchwarzHaus to bed with a PJ and pillow fight party.

Thanks to the wonders of TradeMe we managed to pick up a queen sized slat bed cheaply and install it in the dining room. You can't see from this picture but it also has under-bed lighting installed! flash guys.

Everyone turned up in their PJ's (or were provided with PJs if they were too slack!).

Top of the North

Fraser and I decided to make the most of the end of summer and check out Northland. We went up the East coast (Paihia, Kerikeri & Doubtless Bay), all the way to the very tip and back down the West coast (Kaitia, Hokianga & Daragville).

We went out on a boat for the afternoon, in Paihia, to the hole in the rock and dolphin watching. We saw a whole squad of dolphins, including a baby one... but unfortunately this is my best picture of them

Doubtless Bay is absolutely gorgeous but all the accommodation along the main route (State highway 10) is extortionate... some places up to $1050 a night! So we went round the bay a bit and stayed at the Whatuwhiwhi Top Ten Holiday Park, which was really nice; about 100m from the beach; and really reasonably priced.

Here's a picture of the Te Paki sand dunes. It's a little hard to appreciate from this picture just how Massive these dunes are. The one at the back if about 4 times bigger than the one in the foreground and Really freakin' steep. So we hired some boogie boards and slid down. Although Fraser only got half way down before he decided to do a face planting somersault, very funny, and he still has sand in his ears! heehee.

We stopped at Rawawa Beach to go for a swim (wash the sand off)... it was really gorgeous, the silica sand was white-as the water was crystal clear (and warm!)

We took the car ferry across the Hokianga Harbour... but we left the lights and the radio on for the whole trip so when we went to start the car we found the battery was totally flat. Some American tourists tried jumper leads to start it but it didn't work. So Fraser and some helpful bystanders pushed the car up hill and then along the wharf till it jump started. phew!
In Hokianga, we stayed at the Tree House Backpackers, but it was continuously pointed out to me that it wasn't so much a tree house as a hut in the trees. It was still cute though! If you decide to stay here I recommend you bring some food with you, especially if you're arriving lateish otherwise you might be hard pressed to find anything. The hostel does have frozen meals you can buy, but they only provide 1 microwave so there were queues.
So that's about it for the trip, except we stopped off at Tane Mahuta which is a 'massive' Kauri tree. 13.5m in girth. :)

Jono & Neesh's Wedding

I went with my flatmate Sarita to her brother's wedding today. The wedding was at gorgeous 1880's "Church of the Holy St.Sepulchre" on Khyber Pass (not K road... although we took a nice tiki tour of K rd en route) ;p

The groomsmen were pretty gorgeous too, although this photo does them little justice :D

Sarita's nephews:The reception was held out Villa Maria estate (near the airport)

and included a sit down dinner for a staggering 250 guests~! The food was seriously delish: Akoroa Salmon, Beef eye fillets, Potato Something-I-Can't-Pronounce, Duck in Wanton Cone etc... but my favourite thing was the mini cheeseburgers that came round as entrees. YUM!

Of course it was all helped down with generous quantities of wine! We were at a vineyard after all!

Corona Beach Party -Milford

Being a party on the shore, some under-aged drinker just had to throw a bottle... so instead of finishing at 6pm it was shut down at 5pm and everyone left calmly. That wasn't good enough for the police though, who unleashed a dozen odd policeman to clear out the 3 groups of people and the organisers! Unreal:

Groove in the Park

This year's Groove in the Park was a little different becuase Auckland City Council, being the toss pots they are, wouldn't let it be held in the Domain. So this year we all hung out in Western Springs Stadium. Tim Phin went OFF!! and Roger Sanchez is totally mean! :) Highly enjoyable.

Looks like Dwaynes got horns, huh?

This girl was being a complete muppet... she decided to climb up on the stage, so they stopped the music till she got her arse down... Entertaining though!

I know some of you have been disappointed by the lack of posts lately, and i know I've missed some biggies... my birthday for one! Christmas, New Years... the entirety of January! but NZ summers are just too bloody good to spend inside working on my blogger tan! My sympathies to anyone who’s living through a Northern hemisphere winter… at least you don’t have to look at my posts and be jealous! ;p

I had an absolutely disastrous last exam, despite all Fraser's amazing highlighting and insightful "Bollocks" annotations. So (even though I might have to repeat the paper) I couldn't bear to keep any whingey environmental bollocks... so I burnt everything.
Including the pages on global warming (on how we should reduce Carbon released to the atmosphere by not burning stuff) and on sustainable forestry.... heh, guess I probably didn't learn much after all!

but YAY!!!!!!!! all over now :D

So bring on the social invitations... I'm ready to wild out!

Meet Gorilla, Schwarzhaus' latest pet (Well technically he should be Fraser's pet cause no one else will come near him unless he's tightly sealed in plastic).

There's a dead spider, by the door, that's as big as Gorilla. (It's there cause Paulo sprayed it till it died -so yes it's been there a week) I came home last night and thought Fraser had been 'funny' and moved the dead spider further up the window... but NO it was a new one, a LIVE one! I think the live one is the dead one's mate... how sad "come on mate, get up, it's time to go" :-(

Sarita wants the spiders to be illegal aliens so MAF will come and spray the house (I don't think they are) so that's why it's inside, for studying*. Fraser says it's a silver back spider, but there's no such thing... hence how it got named Gorilla.

On pets:
The neighbours cat, who we called Norman, used to be really friendly, but we haven't seen him since the cocktail party... does anyone know what happened to him?!!! and we used to have a worm called Snake, but I think he got eaten.

*On studying:
I've been doing way too much studying lately, my brain is overflowing with random bollocks (which is essentially what environmental management is all about!). I've also been a real boring pain in the arse to live with, but my flatties have been great. Last night Fraser sat down with my exam notes and highlighted all the important bits for over an hour! How Sweet! :D

I had one exam yesterday and it went fine. I have another one next Friday and then I figure I've got 10 days or so to cause mischief and mayhem in OrkLand before you get back. Although Mikey has already told me that I wont be allowed in his wedding if i get so drunk i see Jebus, spoil sport!

Well I have to go to tidy the house for guy fawkes party tonight. Don't worry too much Paulo, after James almost set fire to the house on Wednesday I confiscated his matches. You did get contents insurance, huh?

Fraser came over last night to drop off his bond & first fortnights rent... but he happened to come in the middle of Kareen's farewell flat dinner, so we made him stay. I'm pretty sure when he visited the first time, he didn't know what he was in for... so we enlightened him with a visit to the cupboard....

Fraser: "Here's my bond and 2 weeks, see you Friday"

SCHWEET! :D and then he participated in 'how many people can we get in the pantry' which unfortunately was undocumented on film (is it still film if it's digital? perhpas undocumented on metal, on chips? ... I dunno! Tech support please!!!) .

Haus Warming

It took us 7 weeks to all be in the same city so we could have our flatwarming! And we only just managed it, with Sarita leaving the party at 4 am for her domestic flight (yes, she's crazy) and Paul in turbo-boost-mode trying to get his hair looking professionally credible before he left for a work trip to the US Sunday afternoon (I think we managed it... may be). Also Kareen just gave her 2 weeks notice so we're looking for a new flatmate.

Friday evening dusks and we're ready to ride. Paul & Ray spent all afternoon on the roof erecting the deck sail... using some ingenious anchoring techniques such as these 2 wine barrels filled with water and a Subaru Impreza on the other side of the house.

We converted the lounge into a dance floor, complete with decks for DJ Danson... mmm sexy bass.

So there was really nothing left to do but start drinking!!! and what better way to start than

Lost Lake of the Dinousaurs

Enough of that! Lake Tarawera isn't really lost but people have dropped $x,000,000 on lake front properties trying to create the illusion they're lost, when in reality they're only 20mins drive from the sulphurous lures of Rotovegas.
I've got to say it's extra special hard to pretend you're lost when the $3k coffee machine (including electric grinder) comes in from the car (some of the best coffee I've had in days!)

Here's Jo, Me, Jan & Vick on our walk around the blue lake - gorgeous. There are no boys in this shot because they've all gone shopping. (There's something so wrong with that sentence!)

The boys did get a little more extreme after lunch. It was quite amusing to be sitting on the deck enjoying the serenity of the lake views only to have it disturbed by a soobie driving past (as fast as possible) dragging a guy on a mountain board!

Here Jan & Charlie look up the directions to the refuse station, luckily it wasn't far because we had to stack it all in unwieldly piles in order to fit it in the car!

Things learned on this trip:
-'Lost Valley of the Dinousaurs' is an awesome board game
-Running into a hedge while playing drunken spotlight is not a good idea
-Taking a running jump onto a chest high pile of mattresses -also not a good idea
-I can't play Pétanque
-10 people can eat 4.5kg of bacon

I'm moving to Milford!

Here's a picture of the house.

It needed a name. Ray et al. had already started calling it the palace in email conversations.... because it looks so frekin' big from the photos.

Fair enuf, it does have 2 kitchens, we joked that one could be for the servants... (but seriously if anyone does have spare servants I wouldn't mind!)

To be in keeping with the current flat naming theme (colour + noun) eg: Green Pub, White Lady, Minty Fresh... we thought we should wack a colour in front of palace

was pretty popular (yes champagne is a valid colour choice, Subaru makes champagne cars don't you know?!) but the hoegaarden was flowing freely so we figured we could come up with something better...

Midget Incrusted Lavender Fort -umm... I'm not really a midget! and Lavender should only be used when referring to the plant (good call James)

Smash Palace -This one's awesome, I love it although the validity of Smash as a colour is contentious.

So then we started chucking around some colours...

So then somebody came up with the idea of Art Haus and the hunt was on for a colour that rhymed with Art. Fart is NOT a colour! Until our English colour chart was exhausted and we had to search other languages. Rouge (too Moulin!), vert (nope, green is already taken), what about german colours.... well I tell you, no one knows much German! In fact the only German colour we managed was schwarz (black) and wouldn't you know it, Schwarz Haus, sounds pretty darn close to Art Haus... when pronounced in (bad) German accent!

SchwarzHaus! and thus we were named.

Ruapehu is yucky (again)

I've had about 4 amazing days skiing this year, and 4 total sh!t ones. Not that this should surprise anyone who's skied Ruapehu before. :)

Craig was down out my lodge (Alpine Ski Club) this weekend, doing a mountain craft course: self arrest, wearing crampons & sleeping in a snow cave... that kind of palaver and I got to ski Whakapapa for the first time this year. It was hard and icey all morning followed by slush & crud for the afternoon. I managed to do an unintentional jump and got a purple ass cheek for my trouble... oh and I fell off a cliff (don't worry, only my spirit was injured).

I still had a really good time though. Wine on empty stomachs, at high altitude, made for an interesting Saturday. I say, I say.

Recipe for a great impromptu party:
1) Set the scene. All you need is a projector aimed at the ceiling and a few fairy lights!

In response to the comment on the Sooby Sooby Sooby post... here are some crash pictures!

So I don't have a picture of the car for this one (Nov 12 2005)... it was written off... but here's a picture of the pole! I'd put up the pictures of my bruises but they're depressing. If you didn't know I had this accident (maybe you've been living in a hole) I was fine here's a photo the night after the accident...
Actually you can see some seatbelt bruising on my shoulder there. If you didn't know that's Peter in the middle and Jo on the right

It doesn't really look that bad does it? I did a good job with the sticky tape on the indicator ;p but this little ding is going to set me (well my insurance company) back Three Thousand Dollars... RAME!
If I catch the fucking guy who did a runner from this crash I'm so going to jandal slap him till he crys for his mummy.

High Tea

In honour of the Queen's birthday we had a high tea, well according to the wiki definition it was more an afternoon tea than a high tea and no, mum, high tea is not code for anything we were not at a coffee joint! :p

Route Map

Helpful tip #1: The river is close to the central plateau and in April, it's COLD... so take extra clothes or extra boys to keep you warm.

John and Richard fell out of the canoe on the first day. It was possibly THE calmest, most obstacle free part of the river. At a lack of how to explain why they were swimming and their canoe was still up right they came up with the plausible excuse that it was a hippo! ... until we discovered that hippos can't float (yes that's a fact!) so they decided it must have been a taniwha (may be he didn't like John's rendition of "Te Waka" - which involved John repeating Te Waka and wacking his boat with the paddle - I personally loved it ;0)

Helpful tip b: Make sure you have enough rope before you head out! Otherwise you have to tie all your canoes together and then tie the front one to the shore. Which doesn't inspire confidence on the long walk to the bridge to nowhere.

Helpful Tip iii: If you're planning on making a fire take some fire-starters. We were burning our safety instruction sheets and worst of all the directions to the pub!!!
